Alif Baa (3rd edition) & Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya, Volumes I (3rd edition), II and III (2nd edition, Georgetown University Press). All course materials are ALIF publications.
VMI partners with the Arabic Language Institute of Fes (ALIF) to present its “Passage to Morocco” program. ALIF has earned an international reputation for the excellence of its intensive courses in Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan Colloquial Arabic. Cadets/midshipmen are placed in the appropriate level course based on the results of their pre-departure proficiency test.
All Project GO programs provide funding for:
- Tuition/fees
- Room and Board
- Travel to/from study location
- Books
- Insurance
- Visa
The following costs will not be included in Project GO Funding: personal spending money, personal travel, costs for obtaining a passport, medication, and expenses for dependents.
Please Note: Project GO participants planning to travel abroad MUST have a valid U.S. passport in their possession no later than 90 days before anticipated travel date. Many destinations require student visas, which take additional processing time. For further information, visit our FAQs.
This study abroad program is an 7-week / 150 hour intensive Arabic immersion program held in the city of Fes, Morocco.
Non-VMI students are invited to apply for Project GO funding to participate in this program; however, since VMI is a Senior Military College, preference will be given to qualified VMI cadets during the selection process.

Once selected by VMI's selection committee to receive a scholarship, the scholarship recipient must then apply to VMI via its Terra Dotta study abroad program. Instructions will be provided following selection.
