The ROTC Language & Culture Project

FIND A PROGRAM

All ROTC students anywhere in the United States are eligible to participate in a Project GO domestic or study-abroad summer language programs at any of the participating universities.

Find the program that works for you by using the search box below. You can search by language, university or program dates. Once you have selected a program, click on the "show info" link for more information. Course details, description and application instructions are included with each course listing. Project GO summer programs range from fully-funded to mostly-funded and benefits will vary by program. Please note that some programs require a separate application process for securing a scholarship.

Prerequisites:

Beginner I

No prior experience required

Beginner II

Students should have completed the equivalent of 2 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

Intermediate I

Students should have completed the equivalent of 4 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

Intermediate II

Students should have completed the equivalent of 6 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

Note:

The university sponsor provides scholarship funding for the course listed; however, the location of study may or may not be at that university’s campus, particularly in the case of study-abroad or combination courses.

Note:

  • Domestic courses take place on the sponsoring university’s local campus.
  • Study abroad courses take place on site at a partner institution in a separate country.
  • Combination courses involve both domestic and study-abroad components.
  • Academic Year Intensive courses are offered during the regular school year and require a substantial commitment of time due to the increased volume of material included in the curriculum.

Note:

Scholarship funding levels differ by program. Project GO programs do not fall under the auspices of ROTC; therefore, participants will not be on orders, will not receive per diem, and will not receive DoD-funded medical coverage as a result of participating in Project GO. However, many Project GO institutions provide living stipends for participants. Please view the “Scholarships” tabs for details.

    Course Details:

    The Intermediate Dari language course will continue working on improvement of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills building on knowledge attained in the introductory course. The primary goal of this semester is to improve the communicative skills of students using the materials related to the daily activities, health issues, travel, etc.

    The goals of the intermediate level course are to extend grammatical, lexical knowledge of learners and use a wide variety of stimulating and challenging activities. Listening activities involve work with audio files from authentic sources. 

    By the end of the course, the student should be able to speak about common topics of everyday life, read and narrate texts of medium complexity on the various learned topics

    Tuition: Fully Funded

    Students interested in participating in and receiving funding for this program must complete TWO applications (one application for admittance into the program and a second, separate application for Project GO funding).

    Note:

    Scholarship comes with a small living stipend.

    Please note: The application will be posted in December 2012. Go to the SWSEEL website (www.iub.edu/~swseel/) and complete the standard application that all SWSEEL students (both ROTC and non-ROTC) must complete. Please make sure to complete the ROTC/Project GO portion of that application.
