FIND A PROGRAM

All ROTC students anywhere in the United States are eligible to participate in a Project GO domestic or study-abroad summer language programs at any of the participating universities.

Find the program that works for you by using the search box below. You can search by language, university or program dates. Once you have selected a program, click on the "show info" link for more information. Course details, description and application instructions are included with each course listing. Project GO summer programs range from fully-funded to mostly-funded and benefits will vary by program. Please note that some programs require a separate application process for securing a scholarship.

Prerequisites:

Beginner I

No prior experience required

Beginner II

Students should have completed the equivalent of 2 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

Intermediate I

Students should have completed the equivalent of 4 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

Intermediate II

Students should have completed the equivalent of 6 semesters

Note: each program has its own entrance requirements & standards

For specific information on language course listed in the database, please consult directly with that program’s point of contact.

Note:

The university sponsor provides scholarship funding for the course listed; however, the location of study may or may not be at that university’s campus, particularly in the case of study-abroad or combination courses.

Note:

  • Domestic courses take place on the sponsoring university’s local campus.
  • Study abroad courses take place on site at a partner institution in a separate country.
  • Combination courses involve both domestic and study-abroad components.
  • Academic Year Intensive courses are offered during the regular school year and require a substantial commitment of time due to the increased volume of material included in the curriculum.

Note:

Scholarship funding levels differ by program. Project GO programs do not fall under the auspices of ROTC; therefore, participants will not be on orders, will not receive per diem, and will not receive DoD-funded medical coverage as a result of participating in Project GO. However, many Project GO institutions provide living stipends for participants. Please view the “Scholarships” tabs for details.

EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Learn a South Asian language this summer!
The South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) based at the University of Wisconsin – Madison is offering intensive summer courses in the following South Asian languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Pashto, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan and Urdu.

Most Project GO Summer 2012 program offerings have been posted. We will continue to add new programs throughout October and November. Browse the "Find a Program" database to find a program that works for you.

The African Languages Initiative is a pilot program designed to increase the number of Boren Scholars, Fellows and alumni engaged in the study of critical languages of Africa. ROTC Students are eligible to apply for a Boren Scholarship to study an African language domestically and abroad.

Please note: if you are a student who received Project GO scholarship funding between Sept. 1, 2010 and Aug. 31, 2011, you will be contacted soon and asked to take a brief language assessment test. Please complete the test as soon as possible.
